Map Reading for Hill Walkers

  • Yair Bridge Car Park A707 Scotland, TD1 United Kingdom (map)

Get to grips with your map and compass, and have the skills to confidently navigate your way round the beautiful Border hills.  Spend a day in the hills with a qualified Mountain Leader learning the basics of map reading and compass work.  We will walk in a small group (max 8).  During the day we will cover the following:

  • matching what we see on the ground to what is on the map

  • reading contour lines

  • taking and following a bearing

  • route choice

  • grid references

We provide all you need: map, map case, compass and a review sheet covering the important skills of the day. All you’ll need is your usual walking kit, food and water.

The cost of the course is £35 and is payable on the day.
